New Patient Checks
When you join the practice please complete the new patient questionnaire and book a medical check-up with our practice nurse. Please bring any medication you take with you and a urine sample.
Well Person Check
Prevention is better than cure and screening is a way of detecting the earliest signs of an illness before it can damage your health. The nurse will check your height, weight and blood pressure and test a urine sample. Blood tests may be done if appropriate. She will also advise about diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol and suggest checks you should do yourself at home.
Ideally we would advise that these routine checks are performed every 3 years.
In the autumn we recommend flu vaccination for people who have heart, kidney or lung diseases, who have diabetes mellitus, who are on steroids or who are over 75 years.
Anyone planning travel abroad should check at least 2 months before their travel date so we can ensure any necessary vaccinations are completed in time. We recommend you take a sterile needle pack whenever visiting third world countries where hygiene may be poor.
Patients Aged 75 Years and Over.
All patients who are aged 75 years and over will be offered an annual health check. This may be with the practice nurse or with your doctor and may be performed at the surgery or in your own home. Any problems arising from this consultation will be referred to the appropriate agency.
